So this picture has been going around for a while, and it kinda bugs me because this isn’t the “terrible truth.” Adventure Time writer Pendleton Ward has explained that Adventure Time is set in a post apocalyptic Earth, the result of a global disaster called the “Mushroom Wars.”
Here’s the Earth, or Ooo as its called.
And in the opening credits, notice the nuclear warheads?
Finn is the only living human, aside from Susan Strong who lives in the sewers. Don’t forget about the Ice King though, he was human once too as Simon Petrikov.
That’s modern Europe in the background. It’s likely that the Ice King’s magic helped him survive the apocalypse.
So, that’s settled. Finn isn’t in a coma. It’s actually much worse than that.
Also, every episode of Adventure Time has at least one remnant of the Mushroom War.
